Major League Cricket Commences 2025 Season In Oakland

OAKLAND, CA  – Cognizant Major League Cricket (MLC) on June 11 launched its 2025 season with a press conference held by the captains of the six participating teams at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee, former Oakland City Council Member Rebecca Kaplan, and Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan were in attendance.

The 2025 season which begins today, marks an expansion for the league, introducing its first presence in the Bay Area and on the West Coast. Matches will be hosted at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum as part of a 34-match schedule across three venues.

Johnny Grave, CEO of Major League Cricket, stated that the West Coast expansion reinforces the league’s commitment to growing the sport in the United States. Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee commented that the event involves community connection through the sport taking place in Oakland.

The 2025 season begins in Oakland, where the Coliseum is scheduled to host seven game days and nine matches from June 12 through June 18. This inclusion of the Coliseum is projected to provide a $3 million direct economic benefit to Oakland during its first year. The venue has been modified to meet international cricket standards, including the installation of specialized drop-in turf wickets.

The league’s expansion and previous viewership, which saw over 100 million fans worldwide watch MLC games last year, precede cricket’s upcoming inclusion in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Following the opening matches in Oakland, the tournament will proceed to Grand Prairie, Texas, for games from June 20 to June 29. The schedule then shifts to Broward County Stadium in Florida, hosting matches from July 1 to July 6. The season will conclude with the finals held in Grand Prairie, Texas, from July 8 to July 13.
