MILL VALLEY, CA – Marin Theatre Company will stage Mrs. Krishnan’s Party, an immersive play that brings the Southern Indian harvest festival of Onam to life, from March 19-30. Set in the back room of Mrs. Krishnan’s convenience store, the production invites the audience to become part of a celebration where music flows, garlands decorate the ceiling, and the aroma of simmering dahl fills the air.
The play, written by Jacob Rajan and Justin Lewis of the New Zealand-based Indian Ink Theatre Company, is framed as a sequel to their popular Krishnan’s Dairy. The plot unfolds in a lively atmosphere, as actors juggle cooking, music, and storytelling. The immersive experience will see the Boyer Main Stage reconfigured with the entire audience seated onstage. Seating options range from Top Table, where attendees will be part of the action, to Wallflower, for those who prefer a closer, but less participatory experience.
The production stars Kalyani Nagarajan as Mrs. Krishnan and Justin Rogers as James, a university student dreaming of a DJ career. Mrs. Krishnan’s Party has received acclaim for its creativity and fresh approach. Waikato Times praised it as “so different, so original, so creatively fresh,” while NZ Herald highlighted the show’s “generous spirit” and its ability to foster connection, sharing, and community.
The show will run from March 19-30, 2025, with opening night on March 20 at Marin Theatre, located at 397 Miller Avenue in Mill Valley, CA 94941. Tickets range from $47 to $97, with a $6 handling fee per order. For more information and tickets, visit MarinTheatre.org.
