Masaba Gupta Raves About Her ‘Damn Cool’ Parents

MUMBAI – In Mumbai, actress and fashion designer Masaba Gupta recently celebrated the enduring coolness of her parents, actress Neena Gupta and cricket legend Sir Viv Richards. While Masaba admits she can’t quite keep up with their effortless style herself, she joked that her daughter will surely give them some tough competition.

Born to Neena and Viv, Masaba grew up in Mumbai and built a powerhouse career in fashion, becoming famous for the bold prints and unconventional motifs that define her brand’s many collaborations.

What prompted Masaba’s outburst was a nostalgic video of her father as he revisited milestones from his storied career. In the clip, the cricket icon reflects on his legendary performance at the Oval stadium, saying, “I’m listening to something which took place in 1976 at the Oval, Blast from the Past. I think I managed to score 2-9-1, so I’m just trying to recall and remember those days. It sounds pretty good.”

When discussing the immense global impact of cricket, Richards highlighted its unique place in the sporting world. “Oh, it’s a great game and it’s the largest, I think, in terms of sporting activities to take place and the Commonwealth in itself has played a huge role. My country would have been Antigua and Barbuda, so I’m really excited about that,” he noted.

Richards, who famously carried the flag for Antigua at the 1988 Commonwealth Games, expressed his joy in representing his heritage once again within the broader Commonwealth community. Recalling his time in Kuala Lumpur, he remarked, “Oh, that period was a great time for me. I really enjoyed that. This now beats it in a big way because I would have spent a lot of time in this country, so I’m just happy to be here again.”

He also spoke warmly about the spirit of the Caribbean and its deep ties to the international community. “Oh, the Caribbean, we have so much to offer. As you know, most of the Caribbean islands have been in the Commonwealth as well. We’re from a place where the weather is as good as any. I’m not just a representative of Antigua and Barbuda, but also a representative of the rest in this, being captain for many years as well,” he said. (IANS)
