Masked Robbers Steal $500,000 Merchandise From Berkeley Jewelry Shop

BERKELEY, CA – In a brazen daylight heist, masked robbers armed with guns and sledgehammers stormed the Bombay Jewelry Company in Berkeley over the weekend, making off with $500,000 worth of merchandise, authorities report.

The robbery occurred on July 6, just before 2:10 p.m. According to the Berkeley Police Department, seven to eight individuals executed a coordinated attack, forcing their way into the jewelry store. The assailants used sledgehammers to shatter display cases and brandished firearms to threaten and control both staff and customers.

The alarm company initially alerted the police, who responded swiftly. However, the robbers managed to spend just over a minute inside the store, fleeing with at least half a million dollars in jewelry.

The robbers arrived and departed in two vehicles, described as a black Honda Civic and a gray Dodge Charger. The Berkeley Police Department is actively investigating the incident.

Despite this high-profile case, robberies in Berkeley have significantly decreased this year, according to the Berkeley Scanner.
