SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Tesla CEO Elon Musk and billionaire Vinod Khosla clashed in a heated social media exchange over Argentina’s economic policies and public beach access. The dispute began when Khosla criticized Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, for his austerity measures, comparing them to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies.
Khosla’s post on X, formerly Twitter, claimed that Argentina’s unemployment rate had skyrocketed to 52% under Milei, warning that similar consequences could occur if Trump reimplemented austerity.
Musk, a vocal supporter of Milei’s approach and a major backer of Trump, quickly responded, calling Khosla “dumb” for his claims. The dispute intensified as Khosla fired back, accusing Musk of bias and claiming that his comments reflected a lack of understanding of Argentina’s deeper economic struggles.
The Tesla CEO also reignited a long-standing controversy involving Khosla’s beachfront property in California. Musk posted a photo on X, the company he owns, with what is seen as a fake sign. The picture is of a sign that Musk claims Khosla put up. It reads, “No plebs allowed” on a public beach near his $32.5 million mansion. Musk mocked Khosla’s actions, suggesting he was a hypocrite for advocating open borders while restricting beach access.
The beach dispute dates back to 2008 when Khosla blocked public entry to the cove near his property. Despite legal challenges, including a 2018 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that upheld public access, Khosla has continued to face backlash from environmental groups like the Surfrider Foundation and California state authorities.
Musk further escalated the situation by saying he would host a barbecue on the beach. Khosla demanded an apology from Musk for “spreading falsehoods” and for his “irresponsible behavior.”
The feud, combining political disagreements and personal jabs, quickly went viral, drawing significant attention online.
