Obama Spotlights Payal Kapadia’s Film Among 2024 Favorites

WASHINGTON, DC – Former U.S. President Barack Obama has shared his annual list of favorite movies, books, and music for 2024, offering recommendations for art enthusiasts. This year, Indian film All We Imagine as Light, directed by Payal Kapadia, tops Obama’s movie list.
Obama called All We Imagine as Light one of the best films he watched this year, alongside other notable titles like Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part 2, Sean Baker’s Anora, Edward Berger’s Conclave, and Malcolm Washington’s The Piano Lesson. The film, starring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam, is a critically acclaimed Indo-French co-production. It tells the story of Prabha, a troubled nurse, and Anu, her young roommate, as they confront their desires during a trip to a beach town.
The film has already made waves globally, winning the prestigious Grand Prix at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, making it the first Indian film to feature in the competition section of Cannes in 30 years. It also earned accolades, including Best International Film at the New York Film Critics Circle and the Best International Feature trophy at the Gotham Awards 2024. Additionally, All We Imagine as Light has received two nominations for the 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards.
