Rahul Gandhi Is No BJP Caricature Of ‘Pappu’ Says Pitroda

DALLAS, TX (ANI) – Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress Sam Pitroda, addressing the Indian American community, emphasized Rahul Gandhi’s patience, leadership and as playing the long game.

“He (Rahul Gandhi) has a vision that opposes what the BJP promotes, despite their extensive spending,” Pitroda said. “I must tell you, he is no ‘Pappu.’ He is highly educated, well-read, and a strategist with deep insights on various subjects, though sometimes his ideas may be complex to grasp.” He said Gandhi practices what he believes and his agenda of love and inclusivity by its very nature takes time to take hold.

Pitroda highlighted that Gandhian values of inclusion and diversity have profoundly influenced his own beliefs. “In the early fifties, Gandhian thoughts were central to our education. Inclusion and diversity were not just words; they were principles we lived by. When I see societal changes that challenge these core values, I am concerned. Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to respecting people regardless of race, religion, language, or state, and ensuring equal opportunities for all, resonates deeply with me,” he said.

Pitroda also emphasized Gandhi’s focus on celebrating diversity. “Rahul Gandhi’s agenda is centered on inclusion and the celebration of diversity, which is crucial given the challenges we’ve faced in addressing these issues effectively,” he noted.

Addressing the state of democracy, Pitroda warned against complacency. “Democracy is complex and requires active participation from many people. We cannot take it for granted, especially with current efforts to undermine it,” he said. He recalled the fervor of India’s independence movement and the clear vision of leaders like Gandhi and Nehru. “It is important to understand the significance of democracy and work towards its preservation.”

Regarding the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC), Pitroda explained its role. “The IOC, part of the Indian National Congress, manages global party initiatives in 32 countries. Our mission is to educate people about our party’s values, align democratic efforts, and increase our membership and activities. We aim to enhance our events and protect democracy through collective efforts,” he added.
