SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) condemned the Trump Administration’s decision to cancel the USDA’s Household Food Security Report, a crucial tool for tracking hunger in America.
The move follows July’s “Large Lousy Law” budget, he said, which saw Republicans cut more than $186 billion from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Krishnamoorthi, who relied on anti-hunger programs as a child, stated that the administration’s actions are a double blow to struggling families. “In July’s Large Lousy Law, Republicans gutted the very program that helps families put food on the table, and now the Trump Administration has cancelled the annual report that shows how many Americans are going hungry,” said Congressman Krishnamoorthi.
He argued that “turning a blind eye to hungry children” does not solve the problem but instead leaves “struggling families invisible and without the support they deserve.” Krishnamoorthi emphasized the need to restore SNAP funding and ensure access to accurate data, especially as rising costs under the Trump administration put more families at risk.
The cancellation of the report comes at a time when the administration’s economic policies are pushing more Americans to the brink, making it even more vital to understand the extent of food insecurity, he said.
