LOS ANGELES (ANI) – Three-time Grammy winner Ricky Kej turned heads at the 2025 Grammy Awards on February 2, wearing a traditional Indian outfit. Kej, who received his fourth Grammy nomination for Break of Dawn, walked the red carpet alongside Marla Maples, an American TV personality and former wife of US President Donald Trump.
For the event, Kej chose a brown bandhgala with intricate bead embroidery, paired with a black dhoti featuring golden lace accents. The ensemble was designed by Bharat Jain and his team at 108 Bespoke, inspired by Kej’s Grammy-nominated album. Adding to the traditional look, Kej draped a Kambli shawl, woven by Kuruba weavers in Karnataka and redesigned by textile designer Pavithra Muddaya of Vimor using recycled yarns. He completed the look with earrings reflecting his Rajasthani roots.
Although Kej did not win the Best New Age Album Grammy, losing out to Indian American musician Chandrika Tandon for Triveni, his appearance drew the attention of media in India.
Ahead of the ceremony, Kej shared glimpses from the Grammy Nominees Reception on February 1, where he wore a maroon sherwani with gold embroidery, also designed by Bharat Jain.
Kej’s Break of Dawn album, described by the artist as his best work to date, explores themes of environmentalism and mental health. The album, which Kej created entirely by himself, is based on ancient Indian ragas and aims to address the global mental health crisis. Kej has long been an environmental advocate, and this album blends ancient Indian wellness music with a modern focus on mental wellness.
