Sewa International Mobilizes Rapid Relief Response To Texas Floods

HOUSTON, TX – Devastating flash floods recently struck the Texas Hill Country, triggering a rapid response from Sewa International. Within hours, the organization coordinated with the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) and Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) to deliver urgent assistance. Initial efforts focused on logistics, volunteer mobilization, and direct relief operations, alongside the launch of a fundraising campaign to support displaced families.
In the first week, more than 100 volunteers from Sewa’s Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio chapters were deployed to Kerrville. Many professionals took time off work to assist on the ground, becoming a vital support system for both TDEM and VOAD.
Volunteers managed supply distribution, directed traffic, and cleared debris. By the tenth day, teams began accessing deeper flood-affected areas, conducting damage assessments and delivering aid. Over 30 volunteers remained actively engaged, assisting survivors and collaborating with local organizations.

In a significant achievement, Sewa International was entrusted with managing the Volunteer Coordination System and Work Management Applications—further cementing its role as a reliable, tech-savvy disaster response partner. Additionally, 28 volunteers from the San Antonio and Houston chapters undertook a focused community outreach effort to locate unregistered families who had not received any official support. Their work included escalating emergency cases to the Hunt Fire Department and securing official work orders for urgent needs.

Sewa International continues to build strong partnerships with nonprofits, faith-based groups, community organizations, and government agencies such as TDEM and the Salvation Army, it said in a statement. This collaborative approach aims to enhance the Indian community’s role in disaster response and recovery, it added.
