STAMFORD, CT – Americares, a health-focused relief and development organization, is proud to announce the appointment of Shweta Rawat to its Board of Directors. She brings extensive experience in scaling social impact programs, philanthropy, and advocacy, with a strong focus on disability inclusion, women’s leadership, and economic empowerment, the organization said.
Rawat has been a steadfast supporter of Americares for over a decade, and her appointment to the board marks a significant milestone in her ongoing commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable populations. She is the founder and chairperson of The Hans Foundation, a public charitable trust based in India, dedicated to providing a sustainable endowment for not-for-profit organizations. Under Rawat’s leadership, The Hans Foundation has grown into one of India’s foremost philanthropic entities, creating lasting solutions for the underprivileged.
In addition to her role at The Hans Foundation, Rawat serves as the managing director of the Rural India Supporting Trust (RIST), an organization she co-founded in 2009. RIST focuses on poverty alleviation and the well-being of communities across India. Americares has had a long-standing partnership with RIST, collaborating for over a decade to enhance health care services in Mumbai’s urban communities.
“I’m deeply honored to join and serve Americares and support our shared values of providing accessible health care to vulnerable communities,” said Rawat. “For over a decade, I’ve seen firsthand Americares’ critical work as first responders in emergency and disaster relief, offering medical assistance and building sustainable programs around the globe. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to contributing my expertise to further Americares’ growth and success.”
Rawat’s appointment comes as Americares continues to expand its health programs worldwide, supporting more than 4,000 under-resourced hospitals and health clinics. The organization’s Board of Directors plays a key role in overseeing the breadth of its initiatives, including its disaster response efforts.
In addition to her philanthropic endeavors, Rawat, who now lives in New York, holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from American University and a master’s degree in human rights and politics from City University in the U.K. She also serves on the U.S. Advisory Board of the Museum of Art & Photography and is a board member of the Banyan Academy of Leadership in Mental Health.
Americares, which is ranked No. 8 on Forbes’ list of Top 100 Charities and boasts a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, continues to be a leader in the humanitarian sector.
