MUMBAI, (ANI) – The Dawoodi Bohra community reaffirmed its commitment to sparrow conservation by relaunching the Save Our Sparrows (SOS) campaign ahead of World Sparrow Day which falls on March 20.

The initiative, which ran from March 6, aimed to counter habitat loss by providing food sources for sparrows, especially in urban areas. Volunteers distributed around 50,000 bird feeders across India, including 6,500 in Mumbai and its surroundings. At Saifi High School in South Mumbai, 500 feeders were given to students as part of the effort.

To track impact, the community used geotagging technology, assigning unique IDs to each feeder. This allowed volunteers to monitor sparrow populations and assess conservation efforts.

The initiative encouraged children to connect with nature and take responsibility for ecological preservation. Launched during Ramadan, it inspired many to install feeders at their homes and schools, promoting long-term awareness and action for biodiversity conservation, media reported.
