Sunita Williams Will Vote From Space

HOUSTON, TX (ANI) – Astronaut Sunita Williams and her fellow NASA colleague Butch Wilmore, currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS), expressed their excitement about voting in the 2024 U.S. presidential elections from space. Both emphasized the importance of fulfilling their civic duty, even while in orbit.

Williams noted that they had already requested their ballots, saying, “Looking forward to voting from space, which is pretty cool.” Wilmore echoed her sentiments, stressing their responsibility as “American citizens” and praising NASA for making the process easy for them.

The two astronauts launched aboard Boeing’s Starliner on June 5 during the spacecraft’s first crewed mission. Initially set for an eight-day stay, their mission was extended to eight months due to technical issues, with Starliner recently returning to Earth without them.

At a video press conference on September 14, Williams commented on the extended mission, saying, “That’s how things go in this business,” and added that transitioning to station life was “not that hard” given their previous ISS experience. Reflecting on her extended time in space, Williams shared, “This is my happy place. I love being up here.”

Though the mission hasn’t gone as planned, Williams remarked, “We wanted to take Starliner to completion and land back on land at home, but you have to turn the page and look at the next opportunity.” Despite the delays, both astronauts remain optimistic, continuing their scientific work and preparing to participate in the 2024 election from space.
