Tannishtha Chatterjee Reveals Stage-4 Cancer Battle
MUMBAI- Actor Tannishtha Chatterjee on August 24 revealed via an Instagram post that she was diagnosed with stage-4 oligometastatic cancer eight months ago. The actor, who recently lost her father to cancer, shared a series of pictures, including one of her with a shaved head, sitting confidently on a sofa.
In her detailed caption, Chatterjee described the last eight months as “incredibly difficult,” but emphasized that her post was “not about Pain. Its about love and strength.” The actress explained the severity of her situation, stating that she has a “70yr old mother and 9 year all daughter… both totally dependent on me.”
However, she added that she “discovered an extraordinary kind of love” during this period, particularly from her friends and family. She expressed gratitude for the human connection, saying she found “irreplaceable compassion of real, passionate humans” who are “bringing life back.” A photo shared alongside her update showed her spending time with industry friends, including Divya Dutta, Lara Dutta, Shabana Azmi, and Vidya Balan. She concluded her note by dedicating a cheer “to female friendships, the sisterhood that showed up for me with fierce love, deep empathy, and unstoppable strength.”
Chatterjee’s post received an outpouring of support from her colleagues, with Konkona Sensharma writing, “You are just incredible and inspiring!! Love you,” and Dia Mirza praising her, saying, “We love you Tan Tan. You are our very own warrior princess.” Abhay Deol commented, “Sending you love Tan,” while Sandhya Mridul posted, “Ohhh Tiger Tan! We got you… Love only always.”
On the work front, Tannishtha Chatterjee is widely known in the West for her work in the British film ‘Brick Lane’, a film adaptation of Monica Ali’s novel, which earned her a best actress nomination at the British Independent Film Awards. Her other film credits include the Academy Award-winning German director Florian Gallenberger’s ‘Shadows of Time,’ where she starred alongside Prashant Narayanan, Irrfan Khan, and Tillotama Shome.
