Trump Revokes Harris’s Security Detail Ahead Of Book Tour

WASHINGTON D.C.-President Donald Trump has canceled the Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, a measure that had been extended by a directive from then-President Joe Biden.

The move, effective September 1, comes just as Harris prepares for a national book tour to promote her new memoir.

By law, former vice presidents are entitled to six months of Secret Service protection after leaving office, a period that ended for Harris on July 21. However, before leaving office, Biden had signed a directive extending her protection for an additional year.

A memo, dated August 28, was sent from the Trump administration to the Secretary of Homeland Security. It reads, “You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris.”

The BBC pointed out that since returning to the White House in January, Trump has also revoked Secret Service protection for other notable figures, including former President Joe Biden’s children, Hunter and Ashley Biden, and former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci. Protection for former Trump officials who became critics, such as former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former National Security Adviser John Bolton, has also been revoked.

Harris, the first woman and first Black woman to serve as vice president, faced numerous security threats while in office that have ended in arrests.

The cancellation means Harris will lose both her round-the-clock personal detail and access to the Secret Service’s threat intelligence analysis. Her Los Angeles home will also no longer be protected by federal agents. The cost of mounting similar private protection could run into millions of dollars annually.

California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, both Democrats, have condemned the action. Newsom’s spokesperson, Bob Salladay, expressed his frustration to CNN, stating, “The safety of our public officials should never be subject to erratic, vindictive political impulses.”

Mayor Bass told CNN that the move “is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation in the form of firings, the revoking of security clearances and more.” She added, “This puts the former Vice President in danger and I look forward to working with the Governor to make sure Vice President Harris is safe in Los Angeles.” Bass and Newsom were in communication August 28 evening regarding the situation.

  • She should get her own protection. I am sure she is not handing out her books for free, but promoting her book for income. Why should taxpayers pay for this nonsense? No need to pay any attention to Newson and Bass since both have managed to turn once Golden State to Garbage State and LA amongst the worst cities in the West. No wonder thousands of smart residents have left the Garbage State, and many more will do so going forward.
