Vir Das To Drop Fifth Netflix Special ‘Fool Volume’ In July
India-West News Desk
LOS ANGELES, CA – International Emmy Award winner Vir Das is set to release his fifth Netflix special, “Vir Das: Fool Volume,” on July 18. Das revealed that the new special holds a deeply personal significance, as he lost his voice two months before the original show was scheduled to be filmed.
Reflecting on the unexpected turn of events, Das shared, “Netflix and I were about to shoot a special with a different theme. The universe had other plans.” This unforeseen challenge led him to rewrite the entire show “in silence” and perform it “without rehearsal across the world.” He added, “Turns out the voice in your head is way crazier than the one in your throat.”
The special aims to explore profound questions, asking: “How much happiness do you share when it comes back? What does it mean for any of us to REALLY use our voice?”
This upcoming release marks another milestone in Das’s successful collaboration with Netflix, following previous specials such as “Abroad Understanding” (which made him the first Indian comedian with a Netflix special) and “Vir Das: Landing.” His other Netflix ventures include “Losing It” (2018) and the lockdown special “Vir Das: Outside In” (2020), as well as his travel-comedy show “Jestination Unknown” (2019).
Das’s career began with a performance titled “Walking on Broken Das” in New Delhi. He transitioned to television, hosting shows like “Is Route Ki Sabhin Linein Maast Hain” and his own late-night stand-up comedy show, “Ek Rahin Vir.” He has also appeared on “The Great Indian Comedy Show” and played a comic relief role in the Hallmark mini-series “The Curse of King Tut’s Tomb.” His Bollywood debut was a small role in the 2007 film “Namastey London.”
Internationally, Das has gained significant recognition, being named one of Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch for 2017.” In 2021, he performed a notable monologue titled “Two Indias” at the Kennedy Center in Washington. More recently, he appeared on the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast in January 2023 and hosted the 52nd International Emmy Awards in 2024.
