COLUMBUS, OH-Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and a super PAC supporting his campaign spent nearly $9 million on advertising between May 15 and the end of June, while Democratic rival Dr. Amy Acton and a supportive political action committee spent about $100,000 during the same period.

The spending gap comes despite both campaigns posting strong fundraising numbers. By May, Ramaswamy had raised about $50 million, with roughly half of that amount coming from his own money. Acton announced in early July that she had raised nearly $18.5 million, which she described as a fundraising record for a Democratic candidate in an Ohio gubernatorial race.

ABC’s News5 Cleveland said Ramaswamy’s campaign and V-PAC: Victors, Not Victims invested across multiple platforms, led by more than $5 million on broadcast television. The campaign also spent $1.9 million on streaming, nearly $1 million on cable television, more than $260,000 on digital advertising, about $130,000 on satellite television and over $14,000 on radio.

Federal campaign finance reports show V-PAC had large donations from several prominent contributors. Philadelphia investor Jeff Yass donated $10 million. Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk and Russia-born entrepreneur Ratmir Timashev each contributed $5 million, while hedge fund manager Bill Ackman and real estate developer Stephen Ross each donated $1 million.

AdImpact reported that Acton’s campaign and a supporting PAC spent nearly $100,000 on digital advertising over the same six-week period. Her campaign accounted for about $87,000 of that total, while 314 Action, a political action committee that supports healthcare professionals seeking public office, spent nearly $11,000.

Jonathan Ewing, Ramaswamy’s campaign manager, said the campaign’s fundraising was unprecedented for an Ohio gubernatorial race. “No gubernatorial campaign in Ohio history has ever put up numbers like this, and it sends a clear message: Ohioans are fired up for Vivek, our campaign is growing, and we will win big in November,” he said in a statement.

Acton dismissed the impact of Ramaswamy’s advertising advantage. “You can’t buy Ohio, and you can’t buy us,” she said.
