World’s 50 Best: Bangkok’s ‘Gaggan’ Stars, Dubai’s ‘Tresind Studio’ New Entrant
NEW DELHI, (IANS) – Tresind Studio, the Indian restaurant in Dubai led by Delhi-born chef Himanshu Saini, has become the newest entrant into the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, announced in Las Vegas on June 5. It is ranked just four notches below Gaggan, the Bangkok restaurant helmed by Kolkata-born Gaggan Anand, which holds the No. 9 spot. Anand is a pioneer of avant-garde Indian cuisine.
Topping the list is Disfrutar, a Barcelona restaurant run by chefs Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch, and Mateu Casanas. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Disfrutar is led by chefs who are all graduates of El Bulli, the long-time No. 1 restaurant (now closed) of the visionary Ferran Adria.
Chef Saini trained under the maestro Manish Mehrotra of Delhi’s Indian Accent restaurant, whom he considers the most decisive influence in his life. He moved to Dubai in 2014 and opened Tresind Studio, a progressive version of the Tresind restaurant, in 2018. Apart from its latest recognition, Tresind Studio already boasts two Michelin stars.
Located at St. Regis Gardens in Dubai, Tresind Studio features a 17-course degustation (tasting) menu that represents various parts of India. As “Restaurant” magazine describes, “From the humble pani puri to the ceremonial Sadhya and a Studio version of a comforting curry, all bases are covered.”
Saini said, “This recognition is a testament to our team’s dedication and passion for elevating Indian cuisine. We are honored to bring this accolade to Dubai and proud to represent Indian culinary arts on the global stage.”
