CIHNO HILLS, CA – A 13-volume biography of late spiritual leader Pramukh Swami Maharaj has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the longest biography by a single author.

Written by Sanskrit scholar Sadhu Adarshjivandas, PhD, Brahmaswarup Pramukh Swami Maharaj: Vistrut Jivan ane Karya spans 8,848 pages and contains 2,146,447 words.

The biography chronicles the life of Pramukh Swami Maharaj (1921-2016), the late spiritual leader of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, from his birth to his death at the age of 94. It covers his spiritual leadership, service and work with individuals and communities around the world.

Adarshjivandas researched and wrote the work over 38 months, from July 2017 to August 2020.

Guinness World Records Senior Adjudicator Carl Saville presented the certificate to His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj at OVO Arena Wembley on Oct. 4, during celebrations marking his 93rd birth anniversary. About 11,000 people attended the presentation, while tens of thousands more watched through a live webcast around the world.

“The subject of this biography is infinitely more important than the author,” Adarshjivandas said, adding that it was an honor to document Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s life and legacy.

More than 310,000 copies of the biography have been sold, according to BAPS.

The recognition follows another Guinness World Records achievement by BAPS in February 2026, when 12,723 children gathered in Vadodara, India, for a simultaneous recital of Sanskrit verses from Satsang Diksha. The event was recognized as the record for the Largest Simultaneous Hindu Text Recital.

More than 15,000 children had memorized all 315 Sanskrit verses of the scripture as part of the wider initiative.
