UNION CITY, CA — Joel Regis, a 10-year-old athlete and 5th grader at Tom Kitayama Elementary School, earned two All American honors at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships in Savannah, Georgia.
Competing for Mission Valley Track and Field, Regis placed fourth in javelin with a throw of 32.33 meters. He also finished fifth in the 1500-meter racewalk with a time of 10 minutes 33 seconds. Both results earned him All American recognition.
Regis has competed in javelin at Nationals for three consecutive years. This year’s performance is his best to date. The racewalk was his first attempt at the event, making his national top five finish a notable debut.
Coach Webb oversees his training. Regis is considered one of the Bay Area’s emerging young athletes.
