‘Kumkum Bhagya’ Actress Sanchita Ugale Found Dead At 22
MUMBAI-Television actress Sanchita Ugale, known for her role in ‘Kumkum Bhagya’, has reportedly died by suicide at the age of 22, prompting calls for a thorough investigation and renewed discussion about mental health in the entertainment industry.
According to police, Ugale died at her residence in Aachole Village, Nalasopara East, on June 14. She was taken to Vasai-Virar Municipal Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Based on a complaint filed by her father, Machhindra Ugale, Achole Police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Police said the exact circumstances surrounding her death are yet to be determined and that the investigation is ongoing.
The tragedy has sparked reactions from within the television industry. Actress Aanchal Khurana spoke about the pressures, rejection and job insecurity often faced by actors, while urging those struggling with stress to stay close to their families and seek support.
The All-India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to order a high-level inquiry into the case. AICWA also called for greater attention to mental health challenges and support systems within the entertainment industry.
Ugale’s brother, Akash Satish Ugale, has appealed to national and state leaders for a thorough investigation, alleging that industry pressures may have contributed to her distress. Police, however, have not established any motive and the probe remains underway.
Ugale also appeared in ‘Wagle Ki Duniya’, ‘Dilwali Dulha Le Jayegi’, ‘Chhaava’, and ‘Silence 2: The Night Owl Bar Shootout’. (IANS)
