WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Postal Service has officially announced several new commemorative stamp issues scheduled for release later this year, including a vibrant new design celebrating the Hindu festival of Diwali.

The announcement outlines part of the lineup for the 2026 stamp program. This year’s main day of Diwali, the annual autumn festival of lights that celebrates the triumph of good over evil, will be observed on November 8, USPS noted.

This marks the second time the postal service has issued a Diwali-themed stamp. The new iteration features a rangoli, a colorful floor pattern traditionally created using materials like colored rice powder, chalk, and flower petals to welcome good fortune.

The artwork showcased on the stamp has deep community roots. The featured rangoli was crafted by Sangita Bhutada, an India-born artist and longtime resident of the Houston area who has practiced the ancient folk art for nearly 30 years. The intricate design was photographed by Bijay Dixit, designed by Jennifer Arnold, and created under the art direction of William J. Gicker.

The Diwali stamp is slated for nationwide release this October, just ahead of the five-day festival. While the postal service confirmed the autumn release window, the specific first-day-of-issue cities and formal dedication ceremony locations have not yet been announced.
