Athiya Shetty Showcases Indian Handloom In Manish Malhotra Saree

MUMBAI-Fashion designer Manish Malhotra showcased the timeless appeal of Indian craftsmanship through actress Athiya Shetty, who featured in one of his handloom Bandhani sarees.

Malhotra shared glimpses of Athiya’s look on Instagram and reflected on his longstanding association with traditional Indian textiles. He said handloom, Bandhani and sarees have been an integral part of his work for decades, from designing costumes for films to creating fashion collections.

The photos show Athiya in the saree, paired with statement jewelry, including a necklace and earrings.

Malhotra has long championed Indian handlooms, textiles and traditional craftsmanship, incorporating regional weaves such as Kanchipuram and Paithani into his couture collections and film designs.

His appreciation for traditional Indian textiles grew during his work in films in the early 1990s, including collaborations with actors such as Sridevi that exposed him to the rich heritage of South Indian fabrics and indigenous weaves. He has also worked closely with skilled weavers and artisans to create sarees and ensembles that preserve India’s traditional craftsmanship while giving them a contemporary appeal. (IANS)
