Ajay Banga Among Global Leaders Set For Clinton Global Initiative 2026

NEW YORK, NY – World Bank Group President Ajay Banga will be among a prominent group of global leaders, business executives, philanthropists and advocates participating in the Clinton Global Initiative 2026 Annual Meeting, scheduled for Sept. 22–23 in New York.

Former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Chelsea Clinton announced the latest group of participants Sept. 10. The meeting will focus on the theme “How Do We Get It Right?” and will examine major global challenges ranging from artificial intelligence and economic opportunity to health, humanitarian assistance, climate resilience and democracy.

Along with Banga, newly announced participants include Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire; Pan American Health Organization Director Jarbas Barbosa; Unitaid Executive Director Philippe Duneton; Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex; LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman; Octopus Energy Group founder and CEO Greg Jackson; Omidyar Network CEO Michele Jawando; IKEA parent Ingka Group CEO and President Juvencio Maeztu; science educator Bill Nye; Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus; and others.

Organizers said this year’s discussions will address the responsible and equitable implementation of artificial intelligence, expansion of economic opportunity, climate and energy resilience, protection of democratic institutions and trusted information, scientific and health innovation, humanitarian response and new approaches to financing social-impact projects.

The Clinton Global Initiative is known for its “Commitments to Action,” through which participating organizations launch specific and measurable projects aimed at addressing global problems. According to CGI, more than 13,000 members of its community have helped develop projects benefiting approximately 500 million people in 180 countries since the initiative was launched in 2005.

Other previously announced participants include Ford Foundation President Heather Gerken; Maryland Gov. Wes Moore; European Parliament President Roberta Metsola; former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power; Nobel Peace laureate Maria Ressa; Chobani founder and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya; International Rescue Committee President and CEO David Miliband; and executives and leaders from major global nonprofit, philanthropic and business organizations.

Participants at the 2026 meeting include leaders of foundations, multilateral organizations and social-enterprise funders representing a combined $13.1 billion in annual grantmaking and investment, according to CGI.

Founded by President Bill Clinton in 2005, the Clinton Global Initiative brings together leaders from government, business, philanthropy and civil society to develop partnerships and launch projects addressing major social and economic challenges. CGI says more than 4,300 Commitments to Action have been launched through the initiative.
