CJP Declares ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ After Govt. Denies Protest Permission

NEW DELHI – The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a “Jail Bharo Andolan” on October 2 after its founder, Abhijeet Dipke, said Mumbai Police had denied permission for the party’s proposed Gandhi Jayanti protest in Shivaji Park against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Kumar, an investigative report has shown, tampered with voter rolls leading to skewed election results in various states. A BJP appointee with long term connections to Gujarat, he is seen as having favored the party with his actions over the objects of the other two officials on the Election Commission.

Social media, opposition parties led by Congress’s Rahul Gandhi and the CJP have been demanding his resignation.

Dipke announced the Andolan  on X, saying the party would launch the agitation if it was not allowed to demonstrate.

The announcement comes as the CJP is also raising allegations over the detention of its co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka and around 40 volunteers in Guwahati, Assam.

Ranka had travelled to Assam to meet CJP volunteers at the residence of Assam Jatiya Parishad leader Kunki Chowdhury in Dispur, near the state secretariat. Dipke said police prevented the meeting and detained Ranka and the other members of the team.

The CJP said the detainees were not told why they had been taken into custody or what charges had been invoked against them.

Ranka, in a video posted on his X account while he was inside a moving police vehicle, alleged that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had ordered the action because the CJP planned to highlight the condition of schools in the state.

He also alleged that the party intended to raise issues involving evictions in Kaziranga and what he described as man-made floods. Ranka further alleged that constituency boundaries had been redrawn to help Sarma win the assembly election.
