NEW DELHI – On November 20, the U.S. Government and Sesame Workshop India Trust launched the Learn Play Grow program at the American Center in New Delhi, in celebration of International Education Week. A collaboration between the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Sesame Workshop India Trust, the initiative is designed to enhance early childhood education and health practices for young children and their families across India.

Featuring interactive learning sessions led by beloved Sesame Street characters like Chamki, Elmo, and friends, Learn Play Grow will focus on building foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, and hygiene for children in Rajasthan and Telangana. Additionally, digital content in Hindi and Telugu will expand the program’s reach to millions across the country.

U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Today’s launch of Learn Play Grow marks a significant step forward in our U.S.-India education partnership. By bringing educational and health resources directly to children and families, this program makes early learning engaging and accessible. Investing in initiatives like Learn Play Grow helps support India’s young learners while building brighter futures and stronger communities.”

Ambassador Garcetti highlighted USAID’s contributions to India’s educational goals, including gender-inclusive classrooms, support for children with disabilities, and multilingual resources, underscoring the U.S. government’s commitment to accessible education for all, particularly girls and marginalized communities.

The Learn Play Grow program, based on play-based learning, will be implemented in over 1,000 Anganwadi Centers in Rajasthan’s Baran district and Telangana’s Bhupalpally district. The initiative aims to engage 20,000 to 25,000 children and their families, with millions more benefiting from the program’s digital content.
