USAID and ISA Sign MoU To Expand Global Renewable Energy Systems
India-West News Desk
WASHINGTON, DC – On December 6, 2024, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the International Solar Alliance (ISA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance renewable energy technologies and promote sustainable energy systems. The partnership aims to enhance energy interconnections across regions and support the development of a unified grid to facilitate the large-scale transfer of clean power.
USAID will collaborate with ISA to expand clean energy transmission networks in regions such as South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Persian Gulf, and Africa. This effort will promote energy security, sustainability, and increased access to renewable energy. The collaboration supports ISA’s One Sun, One World, One Grid (OSOWOG) initiative, which seeks to drive cross-border energy trade and ensure affordable, reliable access to renewable energy.
Co-founded by India and France in 2015, ISA is headquartered in Gurugram, India. It serves as a global platform to advance solar energy adoption, mobilize investments, and develop solutions to combat climate change. Through the MoU, USAID will provide technical expertise and innovative financing tools to support ISA’s efforts.
USAID Mission Director Dr. Steven Olive emphasized the U.S. government’s commitment to clean energy transitions, highlighting that promoting sustainable power systems is vital for energy security and economic growth. Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General of ISA, noted that the MoU will accelerate regional grid interconnections, enhance power system planning, and boost cross-border clean energy trade.
The MoU is in line with the U.S.-India Joint Statement from September 2024, which identified clean energy collaboration as a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship. This partnership reflects both nations’ commitment to addressing the climate crisis and advancing global renewable energy solutions.
