Visa Stamping Delays Lead Google To Advise Workers To Avoid Foreign Travel

CUPERTINO, CA – Google has warned some employees against traveling overseas after learning that US visa reentry processing at American embassies and consulates is facing significant delays that in some cases could stretch up to 12 months.

In an email to staff, Google’s external immigration law firm cautioned employees who need visa stamping before returning to the US that international travel could leave them stranded abroad for months because of long appointment backlogs. The message urged affected workers to avoid non essential travel, warning that they could risk an extended stay outside the US due to limited visa stamping slots.

The delays are being reported across several countries as US diplomatic missions roll out enhanced social media screening requirements. These reviews apply to H1B workers and their dependents, as well as students and exchange visitors on F J and M visas.

According to the report, the State Department has acknowledged the delays, saying it is conducting online presence reviews for applicants. The department added that travelers may request expedited processing, though such requests are considered on a case by case basis.

The administration’s H1B visa policy has drawn widespread criticism from lawmakers and business groups and is facing legal challenges, including two major lawsuits. One of them has been filed by the US Chamber of Commerce, the country’s largest business organization.

India born professionals accounted for more than 70 percent of approved H1B visas in 2024, driven largely by long backlogs and the continued demand for skilled workers from India. (IANS)
