WASHINGTON, DC – President Donald Trump has reportedly consulted with cabinet members about the potential dismissal of Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, citing significant friction over her stance on the ongoing conflict with Iran.

Sources briefed on these private discussions indicate that Trump has expressed growing frustration with Gabbard, particularly after she failed to distance herself from former counterterrorism chief Joe Kent. Kent recently resigned in a high-profile exit while leveling sharp criticism at the administration’s decision to enter a war with Iran. According to The Guardian, Trump has disclosed these frustrations to senior administration officials and specifically asked whether he should move forward with replacing her.

This internal tension surfaces during a period of high-profile turnover within the executive branch. The president’s deliberations regarding Gabbard follow the recent removal of Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security and the April 2 firing of Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Gabbard’s military background, including a 2004 deployment to Iraq and service in Kuwait, has often informed her cautious approach to Middle Eastern intervention. This perspective has increasingly clashed with the more hawkish positions held by other top officials like Pete Hegseth and Marco Rubio.

The president’s displeasure reportedly intensified following Gabbard’s testimony on Capitol Hill regarding worldwide threats. The Guardian reports that this refusal to align with the administration’s narrative angered Trump.

Despite the internal debate, now spilling into the open, Trump has also in the past signaled a degree of tolerance for Gabbard’s independence. He recently noted that while her thought process differs from his and she may be softer on the issue of Iranian nuclear capabilities, he still views her as available to serve.
