LOS ANGELES, CA — The International Mahila Kavya Manch San Diego chapter, in collaboration with the Consulate General of India, Los Angeles, marked Vishwa Hindi Diwas with a literary and cultural program held at the Consulate.

The event opened with the recitation of the Gayatri Mantra by Dr. Kamla Singh, Global President of MKM, followed by a ceremonial lamp lighting led by Consul General Dr. K. J. Srinivasa, along with Dr. Durga Sinha, Dr. Kamla Singh, and Vanmala. The program was anchored by Akhila Rao, President of MKM San Diego.

The event featured poetry recitations by 20 poets from across Southern California, who presented works in Hindi exploring themes of Indian identity, culture, and emotional ties to the motherland. The poets reflected on a range of subjects, including India’s Chandrayaan moon mission, motherhood, love, and human emotions, capturing the sentiments of the Indian diaspora.

A highlight of the evening was a performance by Ashok Garg, grandson of renowned comic poet Kaka Hathrasi. Garg presented Kakaji’s signature satirical poetry, drawing laughter and strong audience engagement.

The event drew attendees from Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego, with many traveling long distances to participate, reflecting a strong connection to Hindi language and Indian heritage.

In his address, Srinivasa spoke in Hindi and emphasized the language’s growing global presence. He noted that such cultural gatherings strengthen community bonds and deepen the diaspora’s connection to India.
