Annu Kapoor Says Sister Seema Kapoor’s Life Was ‘Ruined’ After Marriage To Om Puri

MUMBAI -Veteran actor and television host Annu Kapoor has offered a candid reflection on the personal toll of his sister Seema Kapoor’s marriage to late actor Om Puri. Speaking to interviewer Siddharth Kannan, Kapoor balanced his admiration for Puri’s work with the lingering regret he says his family still carries.

Kapoor drew a distinction between Om Puri’s acclaimed career and the pain caused within the family. While calling him a “phenomenal actor,” Kapoor said he could not separate the issue from his role as Seema Kapoor’s brother.

“Om Puri was a phenomenal actor. There was no great actor like him, but that was a different matter. He became someone’s husband, and after becoming someone’s husband, he betrayed a woman, and that is where things went wrong, and I am that woman’s brother,” Kapoor said in the interview.

Seema Kapoor, an actor and writer, was briefly married to Om Puri in the early 1990s. According to Kapoor’s remarks, the marriage ended within months after she learned of his involvement with another woman. Om Puri later married writer Nandita Puri.

Seema Kapoor had earlier spoken about the emotional trauma she experienced during that period. She said she lost her baby while pregnant during the separation.

Kapoor said the family dynamic shifted years later when Om Puri’s health declined. Despite the past, he said Seema Kapoor cared for him in his final years.

“I was also angry and upset with my sister,” Kapoor said, adding that Om Puri returned only when he had become “weak and fragile.” While Kapoor said he now prays for Om Puri’s son and for Nandita Puri, he said his regret over his sister’s circumstances remains.

“Today Om Puri saab is not there, his son is there, even today I pray to God for his son and for his ex-wife Nandita. I have no enmity towards anyone, but there is regret that my sister Seema Kapoor’s life was ruined. She has no support,” Kapoor said.
