GREENVILLE, SC – A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $30,000 for the family of Tiru Chabba, the husband and father of two, who was one of the victims killed in the tragic shooting at Florida State University on April 17. The fundraiser, launched by the Joshi-Chabba family, calls on the community to support Chabba’s children in the wake of their father’s sudden and senseless death.

“In the wake of this heartbreaking tragedy, we come together to mourn the loss of a cherished member of our community,” the fundraiser reads. “His absence leaves a profound void, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.”

Chabba, 45, of Greenville, South Carolina, had traveled to Tallahassee for work with Aramark, a Philadelphia-based food service and facilities management company. What was meant to be a normal day on campus turned into a nightmare when a gunman opened fire at Florida State University, killing Chabba and Robert Morales, the university’s longtime dining coordinator.

Chabba’s death has devastated his wife and two young children. “Instead of hiding Easter eggs and visiting with friends and family, they’re living a nightmare where this loving father and devoted husband was stolen from them in an act of senseless and preventable violence,” said attorney Bakari Sellers, who is representing the Chabba family.

An emotional vigil was held on campus April 18, as FSU officials and community members gathered to honor the two men whose lives were cut short. The other victim, Robert Morales was remembered gratefully for his services to the campus community.

Aramark also issued a statement expressing its sorrow: “We are absolutely shaken by the news and our deepest sympathies are with the family and our entire Aramark community.”
