Aamir Khan Pitches For Sustainable Farming In Maharashtra
PUNE (ANI)– Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan emphasized the importance of sustainable farming and the role of farmers across Maharashtra at an event in Pune.
Khan revealed that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been urging him for years to expand his efforts across the state. Speaking at the Paani Foundation event, he acknowledged the challenge, stating, “Devendra ji has been telling us for the last nine years to work across Maharashtra, and we had the same desire, but it is a very big state—even larger than Germany—making it a huge responsibility. Now we think we will be able to take this responsibility.”
He announced that from next year, efforts will be expanded across the entire state, with government support through new policies.
Khan attended the event alongside his ex-wife, director Kiran Rao. During the event, Chief Minister Fadnavis underscored the significance of water conservation for sustainable farming in Maharashtra. “If we want to make farming sustainable, villages must become water-rich, complete water accounting and budgeting, and ensure people’s participation,” he stated. He emphasized that without such efforts, droughts would continue to plague the state, making water conservation crucial. He also advocated for group farming as a movement and assured government support.
