PHOENIX, AZ – The Indian American Impact Fund has endorsed Dr. Amish Shah for Congress in Arizona’s 1st congressional district—one of the most closely watched battlegrounds of the 2026 cycle.

Following a narrow loss in 2024, Shah is seeking a rematch with  Republican Congressman David Schweikert in the Phoenix-area district. Schweikert won re-election by just four points in a district that is rapidly becoming more competitive.

“A tireless public servant, Dr. Amish Shah is exactly the kind of leader we need to take on Donald Trump’s MAGA extremism and defend our democracy,” said Chintan Patel, Executive Director of Indian American Impact Fund. “From knocking on doors to building grassroots coalitions, he has shown unmatched dedication to the people he serves. His background as a physician and state legislator gives him a unique, solutions-oriented perspective on the economic and healthcare challenges facing Arizona families.”

Shah, an emergency room doctor and former Democratic state representative, is launching his rematch with a pointed message: he’s running to hold Trump and his enablers accountable—and to put the focus back on economic stability and working families.

The candidate told KJZZ, “We’re seeing the consequences of an unchecked President and a Congress unwilling to do its job. People are worried—about inflation, retirement, and whether Social Security and Medicaid will be there for them. I’m running to stand up for Arizona and to serve as an independent voice who is accountable to the people, not party bosses.”

He is also touting his bipartisan record in the legislature—where he successfully passed Democratic bills under a Republican governor. His coalition also includes bipartisan endorsements, including former GOP House Speaker Rusty Bowers and Democrat Andrei Cherny, who ran against him in the 2024 primary.

In response to the Impact Fund’s endorsement, Shah said:
“I’m honored to have the backing of the Indian American Impact Fund and the growing support of South Asian Americans nationwide. Throughout my career—from the emergency room to the legislature—I’ve worked to give overlooked communities a seat at the table. In Congress, I’ll keep fighting for real solutions that lift up every family and ensure every voice is heard.”
