Ajoy Chakrabarty, T.M. Krishna, Sowmya To Headline Indian Classical Fest In San Diego

LA JOLLA, CA – The Indian Fine Arts Academy of San Diego (IFAASD) is set to host its 19th annual Music and Dance Festival from March 23 through 29, at the Jewish Community Center, here.
This year’s event features a prestigious lineup of world-renowned vocalists and instrumentalists representing both the Hindustani and Carnatic genres, IFAASD said. Attendees can expect a series of concerts showcasing the virtuosity of the flute and violin, alongside unique Carnatic-Carnatic jugalbandhi performances and Hindustani instrumental sets. The festival will also highlight India’s most talented percussionists on instruments including the mridangam, kanjira, tabla, and ghatam.
The 2024 roster includes legendary names such as Padma Bhushan Ajoy Chakrabarty, Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, and Sangita Kalanidhis Dr. S. Sowmya, T.M. Krishna, and Dr. T. Bakthavatsalam. Other featured artists include Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Guru Malladi Suri Babu, Vid Vishakha Hari, Kartik Seshadri, and Rakesh Chaurasia.
In addition to the musical showcases, IFAASD is also presenting classical dance productions in Bharathanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, and Odissi, choreographed by leading dancers from India and America.
A significant portion of the festival is dedicated to honoring musical legacies, including the 106th birthday celebration of Bharat Ratna Ravi Shankar and the 100th birth centenary of Flute Mali.
Lifetime contribution honors will be bestowed upon Guru Malladi Suri Babu, Dr. S. Sowmya, T.M. Krishna, Vishakha Hari, Guru Vidhya Subramanian, Jaikishore, and Dr. Padmavani Mosalakanti.
The event also fosters the next generation of talent with music and dance concerts performed by over 125 children from the San Diego area.
