ARTESIA, CA – Ali Sajjad Taj, Mayor Pro Tem, of the city of Artesia in Los Angeles County has officially announced his candidacy for the California State Assembly District 67 in the 2026 election.
He has served as mayor of the city thrice, where Indian businesses dominate on Pioneer Boulevard, and is often referred to as “Little India” by the community.
Taj, a Pakistani American, said he already had the endorsements from a diverse coalition of respected leaders across the district. “Together, we will build a brighter future for our communities, focusing on the issues that matter most —education, public safety, affordable housing, and economic growth,” he said.
Taj has the backing of three-time Democratic Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva, who he hopes to replace. He also has endorsements from State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Assemblywoman Blanca Pacheco, Senator Bob Archuleta, and Senator Josh Newman, among others.
Running on a platform focused on improving education, enhancing public safety, affordable housing, and fostering economic growth, Sajjad aims to bring his “One Voice, One Community, One Future” philosophy to Sacramento, he said.
“I believe in community-led solutions,” said Taj. “That’s why I’m dedicated to working side by side with the people of District 67, ensuring that every voice is heard, and together, we can build a future that benefits all.”
