WASHINGTON, D.C. – Amidst escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, Representative Ami Bera (CA-D) Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs East Asia and Pacific Subcommittee has issued a strong call for de-escalation and dialogue.
“The brutal terror attack on innocent civilians in Kashmir is unacceptable and demands justice,” stated Rep. Bera. “The persistent presence of terror groups operating from within Pakistan, destabilizing the region and taking innocent lives, must be confronted.”
He stressed the critical need to prevent the current tensions from spiraling into a larger conflict. “I am engaged with the Administration and Congressional leadership to facilitate de-escalation. This moment presents an opportunity to initiate a broader discussion on resolving the long-standing conflict,” he added.
Rep. Bera urged both India and Pakistan to collaborate with the State Department and international partners to establish a ceasefire and work towards a sustainable peace agreement. “The people of India and Pakistan have endured the consequences of this conflict for too long. A lasting peace is essential for the safety, security, and prosperity of the entire region,” he concluded.
