ANAHEIM, CA –Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu facing allegations of corruption related to the sale of the Angel stadium, resigned effective May 24, according to a statement released by his attorney. Sidhu’s Twitter account has also been shut down.
On May 23, Sidhu’s lawyer Paul Meyer defending his client, said, “Mayor Harry Sidhu has always, as his foremost priority, acted in the best interests of the City of Anaheim, and he does so today. In order to continue to act in the best interests of Anaheim and allow this great City to move forward without distraction, Harry Sidhu has resigned from his post as Mayor effective May 24, 2022.”
The FBI has alleged that Sidhu head leaked information to the Angeles to get campaign contributions but Meyer said in the statement, “a fair and thorough investigation” would confirm that, “Harry never asked for a political campaign contribution that was linked in any way to the negotiation process.”
Sidhu’s resignation comes after a call from members of the city council that he quit. He was first elected as Mayor in 2018 on the promise of keeping the Angels in Anaheim.
