NEW DELHI – Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on June 19 that a society where English speakers feel ashamed is “not far away,” emphasizing the importance of Indian languages for national identity and cultural understanding.

Speaking at a book launch by IAS officer Ashutosh Agnihotri, Mr. Shah asserted, “In this country, those who speak English will soon feel ashamed — the creation of such a society is not far away.”

The Home Minister highlighted the intrinsic link between language and culture, stating, “I believe that the languages of our country are the jewels of our culture. Without our languages, we cease to be truly Indian.” He further elaborated that “our culture, our history, and our religion cannot be understood in foreign languages.”

Shah concluded his remarks by expressing a vision for India’s future: “With self-respect, we will run our country in our own languages and lead the world too.”
