LOS ANGELES, CA – Anoushka Shankar was a vision at the 2025 Grammy Awards, walking the red carpet in a breathtaking custom Dior yellow gown. The renowned sitar player shared her excitement with fans on Instagram, saying, “GRAMMY day is here and what a total dream to be dressed in custom @dior.”

Shankar, who has had 11 nominations over the years, earned two Grammy nominations this year, and said online before the award, she was human and wouldn’t mind winning this time around. She was up for Best Global Music Album for her album Ch II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn, which she created with British composer Peter Raeburn at Soundtree Studios in Los Angeles. The introspective album explores emotional landscapes and earned Shankar recognition in the category.

She was also nominated for Best Global Music Performance for her collaboration with British multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier on the track “A Rock Somewhere.” The song features Bengaluru-based vocalist and violinist Varijashree Venugopal, a first-time Grammy nominee, who also contributed to Ricky Kej’s Break of Dawn, which received a Grammy nomination.

In addition to Shankar, Indian American artist Radhika Vekaria made her Grammy debut with her album Warriors of Light. Vekaria, now based in Los Angeles, was born in the UK to parents from East Africa with Indian roots.

Shankar posed alongside her fellow South Asian nominees, celebrating the recognition of diverse talent in the industry. All of them lost out to Indian American artist Chandrika Tandon, whose album Triveni took home the Grammy for Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant Album.
