LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – Gwinnett County Police have arrested Vijay Kumar, 51, of Atlanta in connection with the fatal shooting of four adults at a Lawrenceville home early January 23, an attack investigators say stemmed from a domestic dispute.
Kumar has been charged with the murders of his wife, Meemu Dogra, 43, and three of her relatives. Police said the case began with an argument between Kumar and Dogra at their Atlanta residence before escalating into a deadly shooting at a home in the 1000 block of Brook Ivy Court.
Investigators determined that following the dispute, the couple drove to the Lawrenceville home with their 12-year-old child. The residence was occupied by Dogra’s relatives, Gourav Cumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38, along with two children aged seven and ten.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire at about 2:30 a.m. Inside the home, they found all four adults dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Three children were found unharmed. Police said the two younger children hid in a closet during the attack, while the 12 year old placed a 911 call that alerted authorities.
Kumar was taken into custody without incident a short distance from the home shortly after the shooting. Police confirmed there are no other suspects and said the incident is being investigated as a domestic related case, though specific details of the argument remain under review.
Kumar faces four counts each of malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault. He is also charged with one count of first degree cruelty to children and two counts of third degree cruelty to children.
