Biden: Green Energy Revolution Can Be Delayed, Not Reversed

RIO DE JANEIRO (ANI) – President Joe Biden announced major climate initiatives during his recent visit to Brazil, aimed at intensifying the fight against climate change.

While attending the G20 Summit on November 18 in Rio de Janeiro, Biden became the first sitting U.S. president to visit the Amazon rainforest. Following his historic visit, he pledged an additional $50 million to the Amazon Fund, doubling the previous U.S. contribution.

In his address, Biden emphasized that combating climate change has been a “defining cause” of his administration. He unveiled four significant initiatives, including a commitment by the U.S. Development Finance Corporation to mobilize substantial funds in partnership with a Brazilian company to reforest the Amazon.

Biden also announced a bioeconomy finance coalition aimed at raising at least $10 billion by 2030 to restore and protect 20,000 square miles of Brazilian land. Additionally, he pledged U.S. support for Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s new initiative, The Tropical Forest Forever Fund.

“This is in the interest of all of us. The U.S. benefits from it as much as any other country, including Brazil,” Biden stated. He described the fight against climate change as “literally” a fight for humanity’s future.

Reflecting on his presidency, Biden remarked, “I will leave my successor and my country with a strong foundation to build on if they choose to do so. It’s true some may seek to deny and delay the green energy revolution that is underway in America, but nobody can reverse it.”

Biden’s announcements come as his term nears its end, with President-elect Donald Trump set to assume office in January 2025 following his victory in the recent U.S. presidential election. During his previous administration, Trump was neither vocal nor supportive of climate initiatives, raising questions about the future trajectory of U.S. climate policy.
