Dasharath Yata Named To MN Governor’s Community Council

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Dr. Dasharath Yata has been appointed by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to serve as an acting member of the Governor’s Community Council on Inclusion and Equity. This council will work in tandem with the One Minnesota Council and the Governor’s Office of Equity, Opportunity, and Accessibility to ensure the implementation of equitable practices aimed at addressing disparities, inequities, and systemic racism in Minnesota communities, a press release said.
Yata is the executive co-director of SEWA-AIFW, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the well-being of vulnerable South Asian-Indian families in Minnesota. A Certified Health First Aid Certificate holder, Yata has led numerous mental health initiatives He also spearheads community outreach efforts, collaborating with 35 organizations to provide culturally sensitive services, and leads civic engagement initiatives focusing on equality and addressing racism.
“I am humbled to be chosen for this appointment to serve all Minnesotans, especially my community, and intend to do so through deep listening and active engagement. I do not take this privilege lightly,” he said about his appointment.
Originally from Telangana, he moved to the US in 2011, bringing his expertise as a faculty member to his current role. Dr. Yata is married to Padma, an IT professional, and they have two college-aged children.
