NEW YORK, NY – Schirmer Theatrical, a division of Wise Music Group, has announced the formation of The Ravi Shankar Ensemble and its inaugural 12-city U.S. tour in 2026. This new concert production celebrates the legacy and compositions of legendary sitarist and maestro Ravi Shankar, featuring six world-class musicians hand-picked by his wife, Sukanya Shankar, and daughter, sitarist Anoushka Shankar, who also curated the concert program.

The tour, spanning three and a half weeks, will bring the ensemble to esteemed performing arts centers across the United States. Key venues include the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, NJ; The Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, MD; The Town Hall in New York, NY; Chicago Symphony Center in Chicago, IL; and the Moore Theatre in Seattle, WA.

The concerts will incorporate visuals featuring rare audio and video materials from the Ravi Shankar archives, alongside his iconic music.

“Ravi Shankar’s influence extends beyond music, encompassing cultural exchange and his role as a global ambassador for India,” stated Sukanya Shankar. “I am deeply touched that through this tour, his legacy continues to inspire and influence generations.”

Anoushka Shankar added, “Curating this program has been a profound way to reconnect with my father’s music, not just as his daughter, but as a student and fellow musician. We’ve chosen pieces that showcase the breadth of his artistry—complexity and lightness, discipline and abandon—and I’m excited to share this living celebration with new audiences.”

Betsey Perlmutter, Vice President & Creative Director of Schirmer Theatrical, emphasized the significance of the collaboration. “The Ravi Shankar Ensemble represents a deeply meaningful collaboration of musical legacy and living tradition. It is an absolute honor to work alongside Sukanya and Anoushka on this project, which not only honors Ravi Shankar’s profound impact but also provides audiences with a multi-generational bridge to his music.”
