Dino Morea Questioned In Rs 65 Crore Mithi River Desilting Scam

NEW DELHI- Actor Dino Morea was summoned for questioning by Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing  in connection with the Rs 65 crore Mithi River desilting scam, officials confirmed. The investigation intensified after Morea’s phone number appeared in the call records linked to key accused in the case.

The Rs 65 crore scam involves fraudulent billing and fake agreements related to the desilting of the Mithi River, a critical waterway in Mumbai. The scam has implicated three Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials and five contractors, along with several middlemen and company representatives.

Documents were submitted to BMC, falsely indicating that desilting work was completed and silt was properly transported and dumped at designated sites.

“The investigation uncovered that some landowners named in these MoUs either denied any contract with the desilting companies or did not exist at all, raising doubts whether the river was desilted as claimed,” officials stated. Eight premises linked to the accused have been raided as part of the probe.

In one notable aspect, a company named Matprop conducted a field visit to the Mithi River in February 2020. Investigators allege that officials from Matprop colluded with BMC officers to alter contract terms for illicit financial gain.

The scam has serious implications, as the failure to properly desilt the Mithi River has contributed to flooding during Mumbai’s monsoon seasons.

Actor Dino Morea’s involvement remains under investigation as police continue to probe possible links between him and the accused.
