Divyanka Tripathi Adjusted Priorities After Marriage
NEW DELHI, (ANI) – Divyanka Tripathi, known for her iconic roles as Vidya in Banoo Main Teri Dulhann and Dr. Ishita Bhalla in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, continues to win hearts with her compelling performances. The actress, who tied the knot with her Yeh Hai Mohabbatein co-star Vivek Dahiya in 2016, is now captivating audiences in the show Magic of Shiri.
In Magic of Shiri, Divyanka plays the role of a homemaker who defies all odds to pursue her dream of becoming a magician. The show, set in the vibrant and chaotic Paharganj neighbourhood of mid-90s Delhi, tells the story of a woman who sacrifices everything for her family, only to rediscover her childhood ambitions later in life. Divyanka resonates with this story, highlighting the sacrifices women make for their loved ones.
Speaking about the role, Divyanka shared, “As an actor, before marriage, I used to give 24-hour dedication to my work. After my marriage, I made decisions to work fewer hours so I could dedicate more time to my family and friends. Prioritizing accordingly has been a key part of my journey.”
Divyanka also emphasized how relatable the story is to women in the Indian context, especially those from smaller cities. “This story is about a woman, and even today, women in smaller cities have the same status they had in the 90s. We dedicate ourselves completely to our families,” she said.
Regarding her portrayal of Shiri, Divyanka added, “Shiri’s whole life revolves around her husband and kids, and in the process, she abandons her dreams. But she later gets back on track to realize those dreams. It’s a beautiful story that I relate to as a woman, and I believe every woman would.”
In preparing for her role, Divyanka took ballet classes to perfect her body language, stances, and poses. “I wanted to make this character look different and more confident on stage,” she explained. She also learned sword fighting for a specific scene, which led to some humorous moments as she admitted to breaking walls at home while practicing.
“The most challenging part was mastering the magic tricks,” she continued. “I have butterfingers, and I drop things constantly. Shiri is a magician, and I wanted to get the finesse of tricks right. I took special training in magic tricks for many days and practiced with balls, pens, cards, and coins after class.”
Divyanka also shared praise for her co-star Jaaved Jaaferi, who plays a serious character in contrast to her fun, light-hearted role. “He is such a fine actor, and in Magic of Shiri, we see him in a very different light. I learned a lot from him, especially his body language. He is so convincing in his role as Jadugar Saleem,” she said.
Joining Divyanka in Magic of Shiri is actor Namit Das, with the show following a homemaker whose life takes an unexpected turn when she gets a chance to chase her long-lost dreams. Divyanka’s journey in Magic of Shiri reflects not only the sacrifices women make but also their powerful ability to rediscover and pursue their dreams.
