TAMPA, FL – Dr. Ishwari Prasad, an 84-year-old gastroenterologist here, has been placed on probation by the Florida Board of Medicine following two botched colonoscopy procedures at the Tampa Ambulatory Surgery Center last year, according to a report by USA Today.

In one of the incidents, Prasad, who was not wearing his hearing aids, failed to hear a patient’s screams of pain during a colonoscopy. The patient had not been fully sedated, and Prasad reportedly continued the procedure despite the patient’s cries.

The complaint also revealed that Prasad had “improperly delegated” medical tasks to a surgical technician who was not licensed to practice medicine. This unlicensed individual stated that she frequently assisted Prasad with tasks beyond her training because the doctor was unable to perform them himself.

As a result of the incidents, Prasad has been fined $7,500 and ordered to pay an additional $6,301 in case costs. He is also required to complete a five-hour continuing medical education class by August 7 of next year. During his probation, Prasad is prohibited from performing any medical procedures.

Dr. Prasad has held his Florida medical license since 1990.

  • Money and more money make the doctors go blind to the patients problems. I am surprised that at this age of 84, he should be having gastric procedures performed on himself instead of performing on his patients. With all the money he has earned till now, looks like he is still not satisfied. Maybe he has found out a way of taking the money with him when he dies. As his last name implies, he should be happy taking Prasad from God and living a satisfied life than getting greedy at this age.

  • Why is the Board of Medicine allowing this physician to continue to work at age 84? All of you at the board must be in your 70’s or 80’s and protecting your future salary. You are a disgrace!
Make this incompetent physician retire from practicing anywhere! When a tech has to do most of the procedure and has not been trained or has a license to preform an invasive procedure like a colonoscopy, you are allowing patients to be harmed! What is the tech perforated the intestinal wall and caused peritonitis or death…this out patient clinic administration would try to cover it up.
    Pull his license STAT!
