Fatima Sana Shaikh Says Society Slowly Changing Views On Marriage, Women

MUMBAI (IANS) – Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh says society is slowly becoming more open-minded about women who choose not to marry—especially after the age of 30. While she admits that the pressure to settle down still exists, it’s not as intense as it used to be.

“Earlier, it was a bigger deal. Now, things have changed. People are okay being alone or focusing on their careers. Society is starting to accept that,” she said.

Fatima, best known for her role in Dangal, shared that the idea of relationships has evolved over time. More people today are comfortable making their own choices—whether it’s staying single or prioritizing personal growth.

“I’m not saying it’s right or wrong,” she added, “but I think the taboo is a little less now.”

She also spoke about her first love and shared a sweet memory from her younger days. When asked if she ever kept flowers in books or received romantic surprises, Fatima smiled and said, “100 percent.”

She remembered a birthday when her partner decorated the floor with flowers from the door to the room. “There were flowers everywhere, and candles around the cake,” she said. But things didn’t go exactly as planned—by the time she arrived, most of the candles had melted. “We had to clean it all up later,” she laughed, calling it a simple and sincere kind of love. “I was very young and didn’t even have Facebook or Instagram back then.”

On the work front, Fatima was recently seen in the romantic comedy Aap Jaisa Koi, opposite R. Madhavan. Directed by Vivek Soni, the film premiered on Netflix on July 11.
