ATLANTA, GA (REUTERS) – Nobel laureate Jimmy Carter, who has lived longer than any U.S. president in history, celebrated his 100th birthday on October 1.

Carter, a Democrat, served a single term as president from January 1977 to January 1981.

His decades of humanitarian work after leaving office, including the promotion of human rights and alleviating poverty in countries around the world, earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

His birthday, which came 19 months after he entered hospice care at his home in Plains, Georgia, is being marked by the broadcast of a tribute concert by stars of country, rock and gospel music recorded at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre last month.

The concert raised more than $1 million towards the international programs of the Carter Center, which he founded with his wife, Rosalynn Carter. The former president plans to tune in to the concert on Georgia Public Broadcasting, according to his grandson Jason Carter.

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter were married for 77 years. Rosalynn Carter died in November 2023 and the former president was last seen in public at his wife’s funeral, where he used a wheelchair and appeared frail.

He has been diagnosed with cancer and other health issues and decided to end medical intervention and enter hospice care in February 2023.

In a birthday tribute, President Joe Biden said Carter had always been “a moral force for our nation and the world.”

“Your hopeful vision of our country, your commitment to a better world, and your unwavering belief in the power of human goodness continues to be a guiding light for all of us,” he said.

The Carters have worked with the non-profit group Habitat for Humanity International since the 1980s, and the former president has regularly joined other volunteers to help build homes for people affected by poverty or disasters.

This week, to mark Carter’s birthday, scores of Habitat volunteers, including country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yarwood, will build 30 homes in St. Paul, Minnesota, the group said.

“The Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project serves not only as a way to honor the Carters’ legacy, but also as a reminder of what is possible when people from all walks come together to work toward one common goal,” Jonathan Reckford, Habitat’s chief executive officer, said in a statement.

  • Happy 100th Birthday, President Jimmy Carter!

President Jimmy Carter (birth name James Earl Carter, Jr., born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia) served as the 39th President of the United States between 1977 and 1981.

In 1982, he established the Carter Center to participate in initiatives including monitoring international elections, fighting third world diseases and seeking international peace.

President Carter received the Presidential Medal of Freedom (highest honor for an American civilian) in 1999 and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

President Carter has been in hospice care since February 2023. Amazingly, he is still alive and continues to break his record of being the longest-lived US president.

This Tuesday, October 1, 2024 marks President Carter’s centennial birthday and I am honored to put together the following virtual birthday gift for him:

    1. President Carter’s new age 100 not only marks a milestone in his life but it is also interesting because the sum of 100 and its reverse, namely 001, gives 101 and 101 interpreted as a calendar date as 10/1, is Carter’s birthdate, October 1st.

    2. On his 100th birthday, Carter enters the 101st year of his life and again, 101 interpreted as 10/1 is his birthdate.

    3. Carter’s 101st birthday next year on 10/1/2025 will be special since 101 is his birthdate (10/1).

    4. The sum of the month and day numbers of Carter’s birthdate, namely 10 and 1, equals 11. Interestingly, the number of letters in his name, Jimmy Carter, also equals 11.

    5. The digits of Carter’s 101st birthday, 10/1/2025, equals 11 too.

    6. Further, Carter’s 101st birthday will be special for another reason: 2025 equals the product of numbers 15 and 135. Note that 15 represents the number of letters in James Earl Carter. Additionally, if numbers 1 through 26 are assigned to letters A through Z, the sum of the letter numbers of Jimmy Carter equals 135.

    7. Carter’s 102nd birthday expressed as 10/1/26 will also be interesting because if split as 101 and 26, 101 is the 26th prime number. Also, 102 equals the sum of the squares of the digits of Carter’s birth year, 1924.

    8. Carter’s birthday coincides with the 274th of each non-leap year. Interestingly, the prime factors of 274, namely 2 times 137, differ by 135 (“Jimmy Carter”).

    9. Each year has 91 days remaining after Carter’s birthdate and interestingly, if 91 is written as 07 x 13, the reverses of 07 and 13, namely 70 and 31, add up to 101, that is, Carter’s birthdate (10/1).

    10. Lastly, Carter’s birthdate expressed as 10/01 or simply as 1001 can be expressed as 11 x 7 x 13, the product of the 5th, 4th, and 6th prime numbers. Interestingly, 5, 4, and 6 represent the number of letters in Carter’s full name, James Earl Carter.

Happy 100th birthday President Jimmy Carter! Thank you for your genuine commitment, passion, and efforts to make our world safer and more peaceful.

P.S. As an aside, my dad was born around the same time as Jimmy Carter (September 1924) and he passed away in 2018, at age 94.
