From Women To Gaza, Dia Mirza Championing Global Causes At UN
NEW YORK, NY– Beyond her celebrated career as an actress, Dia Mirza is a dedicated advocate for various social causes, including environmental conservation and women’s empowerment. She recently attended the Women Rise For All lunch during the UN General Assembly, where she connected with prominent female leaders from a wide range of sectors.
The “Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein” actress shared several glimpses of the event on her social media, where she wrote, “Women rise, and with them, the world rises… For People, For Planet, For Peace. At the Women Rise For All Lunch… I witnessed the incredible force of women leaders who bring not just wisdom and experience, but also courage and compassion to the table.”
At the event, Dia praised the powerful women who participated, noting that H.E. Amina Mohammed had powerfully reminded everyone that “In the job that gets done – the done are women.” The panel itself featured an impressive array of global leaders, including H.E. Kristrún Frostadóttir, the Prime Minister of Iceland; H.E. Sahle-Work Zewde, the former President of Ethiopia; H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the former President of Liberia; and Rebeca Grynspan, the Secretary-General of UNCTAD.
The discussion was moderated by Caitríona Perry, Chief Anchor for BBC News. Dia further reflected that the event had reinforced her belief that leadership is not about dominance but about service, inclusion, and creating pathways for peace and progress. She described the experience as being part of “Creating an echo chamber of kindness,” and emphasized that the Women Rise for All network, led by the indomitable Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, is “proof that when women lead, the SDGs move closer to reality.”
In addition to her participation in the women’s leadership event, Dia Mirza took a firm public stand in support of Palestine while in New York. The actress shared a glimpse of a demonstration on her Instagram stories, where anti-Israel activists were seen creating a powerful and rhythmic atmosphere with chants of “Gaza” and the beat of drums.
The protesters had taken to the streets of Manhattan with the demand to “Abolish Israel” after a series of countries granted Palestine statehood recognition during the UN’s annual General Assembly. Dia’s advocacy and presence in New York highlighted her commitment to both women’s leadership and broader global peace movements. The post garnered a warm response from her peers, with Pakistani activist and motivational speaker Muniba Mazari commenting, “What an absolute pleasure to have met you @diamirzaofficial!” (IANS)
